What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
This class is suitable for all beginners and improvers over the age of 19 years.

Learning Goals:
Learn and perform one flowing yoga sequence. Improve your balance and flexibility. Learn a range of basic yoga poses, including at least one standing pose and one balancing pose. Achieve a personal goal as discussed with your tutor.

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will help you work within your own capabilities and experience level, using props where appropriate. As well as demonstrating the poses, the tutor will instruct you in trying them for yourself. You'll also observe other learners to understand key points, and reflect on what you've learned by taking part in question and answer sessions. The tutor will offer regular feedback in a constructive and supportive environment.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will use a range of methods to assess your progress during the course. These may include observation, completion of an Individual Learning Plan which will be updated regularly, evaluation of your practice and question and answer sessions.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
The tutor will discuss this with you in your first session.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
Most of the equipment for our wellbeing classes is provided, including yoga mats, but learners are welcome to bring their own. Please do not purchase anything before your first session unless requested to do so. No liability can be accepted for expenses incurred for a course cancelled or altered at short notice.

What do I need to bring to the first class?
Please wear comfortable clothing that doesn't restrict your movement, and don't eat for at least an hour before your session.

Options when finished
The department offers a wide variety of wellbeing courses. Information about these is available through the tutor, the curriculum leader or the ALL programme.

Additional information
The tutor will ask you to complete a health questionnaire during your first class. This will help them assess your ability level and adapt their teaching to your needs. Please note that although the course is scheduled to take place in the dance studio or gym, these spaces may be unavailable at times, in which case sessions may be delivered online.
