Basic digital skills – use online services and buy items

Learn how to buy and sell items online and access local and national services. In this course, you will set up accounts with Amazon and eBay, and find out how to interact with central and local government departments. You'll also discover how to navigate the internet using different applications, from booking holidays and travel to using local and international transport websites and apps. Finally, you will learn how to make an appointment online with your general practitioner.

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
You'll need an email account and password, but no prior knowledge is required to enrol on this course.

Learning Goals:
Set up online accounts for public services such as with your local council or a government department. Use travel websites and Apps to book tickets and make reservations. Make a GP appointment online. Set up online accounts with retailers to order and pay for goods online such as through Amazon or eBay.

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
The tutor will use a range of teaching methods including demonstrations, question and answer sessions, discussions, practical worksheets and one to one support.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
There will be some informal assessment including observation, quizzes, discussions and feedback on your work.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
Practice between classes is recommended.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
You'll need a pen, some paper and a folder.

What do I need to bring to the first class?
You will need a smartphone – either Android or Apple – or a tablet with wifi enabled. Part of the course involves setting up an account with your GP. You will need a letter of registration from the receptionist at your surgery, so please make sure you get this before the class.
