Keeping active when pregnant

The fitter you are the easier it will be for you to adapt to your changing shape and weight gain when you become pregnant. It will also help you cope with labour and get back into shape after the birth.

Try to build some activity into your daily life. Over a week this should ideally add up to at least two and a half hours of moderate intensity. This could be walking briskly or cycling.

Why exercise?

There are lots of benefits to increasing or starting the amount you exercise, including:

  • an Increase in your strength and stamina

  • it makes you feel good

  • it improves your circulation

  • it helps you sleep well

  • it may reduce the length of your labour.
