Staying safe

Guidance on staying safe and making informed decisions.

Whether you’re moving into independent living, starting work, or accessing new services, we want to ensure you feel confident, supported, and protected.

As you transition into adulthood, staying safe and making informed decisions is crucial.

Key areas of safety

  • understanding your rights - knowing your rights in education, work, housing, and social care
  • online safety - protecting yourself when using the internet and social media
  • personal safety - keeping safe in the community, when travelling, or in new environments
  • health and wellbeing - knowing how to access medical support and mental health services
  • safeguarding against exploitation - recognising signs of financial abuse, coercion, or neglect and knowing who to turn to for help

Who to contact if you’re worried about your safety

  • if you feel unsafe or have concerns about abuse, neglect, or exploitation, you can complete the adult safeguarding concern form
  • if you are experiencing an emergency, call 999 for immediate help
  • for non-emergency advice, you can speak to a trusted adult, social worker, teacher, or carer
