Sydenham night market

Discover a new night market in Sydenham with local street food, a lively atmosphere and outdoor dining.

Running every Friday from 17 July to 18 September, 5pm to 10pm at a car-free Sydenham Station Approach, the free market aims to make Sydenham a go-to spot for summer evenings.

The market is one of 15 projects selected for the Mayor of London’s Summer Streets programme, which supports outdoor dining, events and local businesses.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes. Entry to the Sydenham Night Market is free. You will buy directly from traders at their stalls.

Who is running the market?

It will be operated by Food Market Company, the organisers behind popular markets in Catford, Lewisham and Beckenham Place Park. The series will showcase local traders and food vendors.

Is it family-friendly?

Yes. The Sydenham Night Market is designed to be a family-friendly event. People of all ages are welcome to attend and enjoy the food, entertainment and activities on offer. Children should be accompanied by a responsible adult/guardian.

When will the road be closed to cars?

Temporary road closures for traffic will be in place on market days (Fridays from 17 July until 18 September) from 3pm until 11pm to allow the event to take place safely along the Sydenham Station Approach.

Pedestrians will still have full access to the station through the Sydenham Station Approach road as well as through the Silverdale Road passage.

A temporary parking bay will be in place on the road for drop-offs and emergency vehicles. Businesses and residents with concerns about reduced access to their property can contact business@lewisham.gov.uk.

Will it go ahead if it rains?

We will determine this if the event needs to be cancelled due to bad weather closer to the event start time. Keep an eye out on @sydnehamnightmarket Instagram for the latest updates.

Is the location accessible for wheelchair users?

Yes, the area will be accessible to wheelchair users. Both those attending the market and using the station.

Who is paying for it?

Lewisham Council was one of 13 London boroughs to recently secure funding from the Mayor of London's Summer Streets programme to cover the market costs. This London-wide programme supports boroughs to create outdoor events that attract visitors, support local businesses and encourage people to spend time on their local high streets.

Will residents still be able to access their homes?

Yes. Residents will still be able to access their homes. The Council and event organisers will work with affected residents and businesses to minimise disruption and ensure access arrangements are in place where needed. Contact business@lewisham.gov.uk if you have any questions.

Will there be security?

Yes. Appropriate safety and security measures will be in place throughout the event.
