How we support your family and carers
Information on the support available to families.
Transitioning to adulthood isn’t just a big change for young people - it also impacts families and carers.
We recognise the vital role that parents, guardians, and carers play in supporting young people, and we’re here to provide guidance and assistance during this process.
Support available for families and carers
- information and advice - helping you understand the transition process and what support is available
- carer’s assessment - if you are an unpaid carer, you may be entitled to an assessment to see what support you need
- support groups and networks - connecting you with other parents and carers who understand the challenges of transition
- respite and breaks - if needed, short-term respite care can be arranged to support you
Carer’s assessment - do you need support?
If you provide unpaid care for a young person with additional needs, you have the right to a carer’s assessment under the Care Act 2014.
This assessment looks at:
- the impact caring has on your own wellbeing
- whether you need support to continue caring
- what services or financial support might be available to you
How to access support
- if you already have a social worker, they can discuss available support with you
- if you would like a carer’s assessment, you can request one by contacting the Imago Hub on 0300 011 1965
