Volunteering and community stores
Due to an IT issue, our housing complaints email address isn't working. We're expecting to have it back up and running by the end of the week.
If you need to raise a housing complaint in the meantime, please use our housing complaints form.
We support four food aid organisations on Lewisham Council-managed estates:
- Evelyn Community Store (Evelyn Community Centre)
- Feed the Hill Social Supermarket (New Cross Road)
- Sydenham Community Supermarket (Kelvin Grove)
- Rehoboth Community Outreach Club (Hazel Grove)
These organisations are run by residents for residents. They offer low-cost, healthy groceries, providing weekly food and essentials to residents who are struggling to make ends meet. Members can save up to £30 a week compared to regular supermarkets. They run collection days and offer delivery services for those unable to visit in person.
Volunteer opportunities
All of these organisations need volunteers; even one or two hours of your time can make a big difference. Tasks include:
- Transporting surplus food and deliveries (a car or cargo bike is fine, no van required)
- Sorting surplus food on-site
- Helping members shop on collection days
If you’d like to volunteer, email CommunityRelations@lewisham.gov.uk. If food store volunteering isn’t for you, we can discuss other opportunities, such as gardening, environmental projects, or youth initiatives.
