Missing vehicles

Sometimes, we will remove a vehicle from a public road if it is untaxed or considered to be abandoned.

If your vehicle is missing and you think it has been removed by us, you can report this using the online form below.

We will need to know:

  • the vehicle registration number

  • your contact information.

What happens next

If we have removed your vehicle, it will be held with one of our vehicle enforcement contractors:

We will investigate the matter and contact you within 24 hours of completing the form.

Reporting a missing vehicle that is untaxed

If your missing vehicle was untaxed, it may have been removed by us.

We can remove vehicles that are untaxed but not abandoned using devolved DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) powers. With these powers, we can remove vehicles that are on a public road with road tax that is out of date, but only when we are authorised to do so by the DVLA.

On the 1 October 2014 changes were made by the DVLA and the paper tax disc is no longer required to be displayed on a vehicle. You can visit GOV.UK to check if a vehicle is taxed.

If you think your vehicle has been stolen

If you think your vehicle may have been stolen, please report this to the police by calling 101.
