If you've received a council tax text or email about your council tax

We may send you a text message (SMS) or email to notify you about a review of your entitlement to discounts or exemptions.

These reviews are sent to help you make sure your account remains up to date and that you don’t miss out on any entitlements or incur any charges.

Have you received a text or email about your council tax?

Our Council Tax team may contact you by text message, email, or automated voice message if:

  • you do not pay by Direct Debit
  • your account is overdue
  • a payment is due soon

These messages are intended as helpful reminders to support you in keeping your account up to date.

Why we contact you

We understand that the ongoing cost of living crisis is affecting many residents.

Our aim is to:

  • help you avoid arrears by offering early support
  • ensure council tax is collected fairly and promptly

When you might receive a message

You may receive a reminder if:

  • you currently hold a discount or exemption, and we need to check that you still qualify.
  • we have reason to believe your circumstances may have changed (for example, occupancy, status of the property, or number of residents).
  • you have applied for a discount/exemption, and we require supporting documentation or a declaration
  • a new billing period has begun, and a review is routine
