Events planning checklist

If you are planning an event or festival, read our guidance on funding, licensing and health and safety.

Funding

To be in with a chance of getting funding, make sure your ideas are imaginative and that your event meets a community need.

Licensing

If your event involves any sort of public entertainment, marquees, stages or temporary structures or the sale of alcohol you usually need to apply for a licence.

Informing the police

Whatever the size of your event, you should tell the police it's happening. They work in partnership with us to advise event organisers.

Health and safety

You need to do appropriate planning for the size and scale of your event. To make sure you comply with current legislation and best practice, you should read the Government's guidance on running safe events.
