FREE taster family capoeira (ages 6-16)

This family-focused Capoeira course introduces participants to the movement, music, and culture of Capoeira. Parents and children will train together, learning essential techniques through interactive exercises, rhythmic movements, and group activities. The course promotes physical fitness, cultural awareness, and community bonding while making fitness fun and engaging for all ages.

What prior knowledge, experience and qualifications will I need?
No prior experience is necessary. This course is open to families with children aged 6 – 16. Parents and children train together, making it a great way to stay active and connected. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are all you need.

Learning Goals:
Develop coordination, flexibility, and strength through Capoeira movements. Learn basic Capoeira techniques in a fun, family-friendly environment. Understand the history and cultural significance of Capoeira as an Afro-Brazilian art form. Strengthen the family bonds and foster teamwork through engaging partner activities. Also improve confidence, discipline, and social skills by interacting with other families.

What teaching methods will the tutor use?
Family-based activities where parents and children train together with demonstration and guided practice of Capoeira techniques. Group exercises to improve movement, rhythm, and teamwork including interactive storytelling to explore Capoeira’s cultural and historical roots. Use traditional Capoeira music and instruments to build rhythm and engagement. Community-building activities to encourage families to interact with others.

What assessment methods will the tutor use?
Observation of learner and family participation in activities. Informal feedback during practice sessions. End-of-course assessment through a family Capoeira roda (circle game) and a certificate of completion or progress recognition.

Will extra work be required outside the class times?
Practising simple Capoeira movements and exercise at home as a family (10 – 15 minutes daily). Engaging with Capoeira music and songs to build rhythm and cultural appreciation. Watching videos or attending events to deepen understanding of Capoeira culture.

What materials will I need for the course and how much will they cost?
Comfortable sportswear (t-shirt, jogging bottoms, or Capoeira uniform (not mandatory) - £20.00 - £60.00 per person and water bottle.

What do I need to bring to the first class?
Comfortable clothing for movement, water bottle and a positive attitude and readiness to have fun as a family.
