The Bank of Things is now open
The Bank of Things at Unit 19 in Lewisham Shopping Centre has been launched by Young Mayor Rosanna Campbell, former Young Mayor Femi Komolafe and Deputy Mayor of Lewisham Cllr Brenda Dacres.
An innovative donation and service hub for young people, it offers items such as stationery, art equipment, toiletries and other essentials.
Unit 19 also hosts Baseline and Youth Hub services, where young people can access advice and information about education, training, employment and careers.
Young people can come along between 4pm and 7pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Unit 19 is open for donations:
10am - 5pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
10am -7pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Donations of money can be made via: https://www.lewishamlocal.com/lewisham-bank-of-things/
Launching the service, Femi, former Young Mayor said, “We’re so excited to see this project get off the ground, we just want young people in Lewisham to come along and use it.… all you have to do is drop in and see what’s here. It’s that simple and its free! No questions asked.”
Rosanna, Young Mayor said, “You can also get advice or find out about what else is going on in Lewisham, come and get involved.”
The Young Mayor and Young Advisors have consulted with schools and youth clubs on the project, and spent time learning from Lewisham Food Bank and Lewisham Local to understand the logistics involved in running donation hubs.
The Bank of Things is located in Unit 19, a space provided free of charge at Lewisham Shopping Centre. It will be staffed by Lewisham Local staff and volunteers, with local businesses donating items. Young people across the borough will also be volunteering to support their peers and encourage others to access the resource.
