State Funeral Bank Holiday

Changes to council services on the day of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral.

The Government has announced that Monday, September 19, the date of Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral, will be a national bank holiday. 

This means that there will be some changes to council services on that day. 

Contact 

Council offices and the Lewisham Council customer service phone lines will be closed. Our out of hours service will be in operation, in an emergency you can contact the council on 020 8314 6000. 

Leisure centres and libraries 

All Council leisure centres and libraries will be closed.  

Rubbish and Recycling 

There will be no household bin collections on Monday 19 September. Collections will occur one day later than usual next week for all households. Please avoid leaving bins/sacks out before your collection day. Check your revised collection day. 

The Waste Recycling Centre at Landmann Way will be closed and will reopen as usual on Tuesday 20 September. We will contact residents to reschedule any bookings.

Education 

Schools and colleges will be closed. 

Cemeteries

All cemeteries will be open to the public 10am – 4:45pm (allowing 15 minutes for visitors to leave the gardens as gates are locked at 5pm).  The Crematorium Gardens will be open to the public between 10am – 4pm and copies of the books of condolence for Queen Elizabeth II will be on display during the day. The chapel and offices will be closed.
