Standing up to hate in Lewisham

See what we're doing to mark National Hate Crime Awareness Week.

We're highlighting the importance of tolerance and harmony with a series of events to help build community strength.

The week of action runs from 12–19 October and the events include:

  • an afternoon networking event at Goldsmiths, University of London where attendees can discuss with local experts how to we can address hate crime as a community and how it can be reported
  • an evening meeting of the Lewisham Interfaith Forum which brings together different faiths and communities and celebrates diversity
  • a performance by Deptford-based youth arts organisation Second Wave, based on the theme of hate crime, followed by a panel discussion.

A hate crime is when someone commits a crime against someone because of their disability, gender identity, race, sexual orientation, religion, or any other perceived difference.
