Protecting Lewisham residents from rogue development

Residents are encouraged to give feedback on our draft Planning Enforcement Plan.

As we look at achieving our wider vision for Lewisham, it is critically important that we keep our residents safe as well as protect the quality and character of Lewisham from ‘rogue developers’ in the borough.

‘Rogue development’ is construction undertaken without abiding by the Council’s planning rules and regulations which are designed to keep development to a high standard in the borough.

Our Planning Enforcement Plan, currently being drafted will form the basis of the Council’s decision-making in all Planning Enforcement matters in the borough. The Plan outlines the Council’s suggested policies, approaches and priorities when investigating and resolving breaches in planning regulation. It also includes how we will remain accountable as an enforcement service to residents.

The Council would now like to hear residents' views on our suggested approach, so we can further develop the plan.

Councillor James-J Walsh, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Regeneration and Planning said:
“It is pivotal that the Council works with and for residents to ensure planning enforcement and regulation reflects the needs and safety of our local community.

“Planning regulation plays an integral role in ensuring rogue developers adhere to our rules, so that Lewisham develops in a way that is both sustainable, safe and in line with our resident's wider vision for the borough.”
