Over 50s invited for COVID-19 vaccination

Over 50s are being invited to a pop-up vaccination clinic in Lewisham this weekend.

The pop-up clinic will be in Lewisham Shopping Centre, opposite H&M on Friday 23 April and Saturday 24 April, 9.30am – 5pm for anyone over 50 who hasn’t yet received their first jab.

Walk in appointments are available on the day or can be booked  in advance by sending your NHS number, name, date of birth and a contact email or phone number to selccg.lewishamvaccinations@nhs.net or via text or WhatsApp to 07566 794161.

The vaccine available will be Astra Zeneca and it will be free of charge.

Dr Catherine Mbema, Lewisham’s Director of Public Health said:

“Pop-up clinics across the borough in churches and community spaces are proving hugely popular and helping to make it easy for local people to get the vaccination when it’s their turn. We’re targeting a priority group which has been eligible for over a month now. We’re hoping to attract anyone over 50 who hasn’t yet booked an appointment - perhaps because it hasn’t been convenient or maybe because they still have questions about the vaccination. This will be a great opportunity to talk to a GP and other health professionals to understand more about the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccination.”

Dr Sian Knight, a Lewisham-based GP said:

''We hope to deliver over a thousand vaccinations across these two days. It’s really quick and hopefully it will be easy to do as part of your weekly shop. If you are over 50 and you haven’t had your first vaccination, do pop along on Friday or Saturday. Just walk in on the day.”

Martin Wilkinson, Director of Integrated Care and Commissioning, ‎Lewisham Council and NHS South East London Clinical Commissioning Group said:

“We are really pleased to be able to run these pop up clinics right in the heart of Lewisham. Anything we can do to make it easier for people to get their vaccine helps us all to be safe, lowers hospital admissions and means we will get back to a more normal way of living more quickly. We are focussing this clinic on the over 50s. Other eligible people can find a convenient location via the national booking service or will be contacted by their GP.”

The COVID-19 vaccination is now being offered to everyone over 45, eligible frontline health or social care workers, main carers for those at high risk from COVID-19, those with a learning disability as well as those who are clinically extremely vulnerable or clinically vulnerable. Book your COVID-19 vaccination appointment on the NHS website or call 119, free of charge.
