Lewisham schools celebrating fantastic GCSE grades on results day 2022

Students are celebrating today after receiving their GCSE grades, with many Lewisham schools reporting a large number of excellent results.

The 2022 cohort were the first to sit public GCSE examinations since the pandemic, and there were plenty of proud smiles and stories of excellent achievements across the borough.

Students (L-R) Frasier Naya Stevenson, Louis Dunn, Sam McEnroe-Wright, Adam Perry, Isaac LangthorneForest Hill students achieved impressive results in both attainment and progress with a third of all grades awarded being the highest (7-9) grades.

Top performing students include Frasier Naya Stevenson who achieved five 9s, two 8s and two 7s, Louis Dunn (five 9s four 8s) and Adam Perry (seven 9s, one 8 and one 6). All are continuing their studies at SFH6, the joint sixth form with Sydenham School.

Headteacher Michael Sullivan, said:

“We are exceptionally proud of how well our boys have performed in GCSE examinations this year. Having endured an enormously challenging period during the pandemic, they have emerged with outstanding performances which add up to give Forest Hill really strong GCSE outcomes this year.

Of course, many will go on to study at our sixth form provision, SFH6 and that gives us great hope for the future. My thanks go out to my dedicated staff, to families which have given so much support and, of course to the boys themselves.”

Sydenham School have reported extremely strong GCSE results this year, and are also proud to be continuing to close the gap between the performance of their Pupil Premium students and their peers.

Elsewhere, Addey & Stanhope’s Class of 2022 delivered top results for the school, with strong performance across the board.

Deptford Green experienced a significant increase across all measures compared to 2019.

Sedgehill Academy celebrated top GCSE results across all subjects with their highest achiever of the year, David Lamont, celebrating an impressive seven grade 9s and two grade 8s.

St Matthew Academy were celebrating top results including Tani Soyombo who achieved ten 9s and one 8, and Omeyi Shuaibu with eight 9s and one 7.

Bonus Pastor Catholic College reported over three quarters of students achieving pass grades in English and Maths, 149 grade 8s and 9s across all subject areas, with every curriculum area achieving excellent outcomes.

Councillor Chris Barnham, Cabinet Member for Children & Young People and Community Safety, joined Deputy Mayor Brenda Dacres and Ellie Reeves, MP for Lewisham West and Penge, at Forest Hill School to celebrate with students as they received their results.

Cllr Barnham said:

“Congratulations to the Lewisham students who received their GCSE results today. They have had to cope with a difficult few years, but I am pleased that so many students have received the results they deserve, and it’s great to hear that so many of them are continuing their Post-16 learning in Lewisham’s colleges and sixth forms. I would like to thank staff in our secondary schools who have worked so hard to support their students.”
