Launch of Foster Carer Recruiters at revamped Fostering Hub in Catford

The Fostering Hub owned by Lewisham Council in Catford has been revamped and is now the base for four new foster carer recruiters who go out into the local community to recruit foster carers for the council.

The foster carer recruiters and the Fostering Hub revamp are part of a new pilot funded by the Department of Education as part of their new strategy for children’s social care: ‘Stable homes built on love’. Aimed at helping to keep children close to the community and family network that they know.

Patrick Davis, Tracy Jones, Yeliz Nuray and Chevone Matabaro are approved foster carers for Lewisham Council and were all keen to help to recruit more people to the role they have done with passion for years. Who better to tell people the benefits of fostering than the foster carers themselves. They come from all walks of life and have different interests and backgrounds, all with the aim of helping local children and young people to do well and flourish in their local community.

The Fostering Hub at 45 Bromley Road has had a revamp and has been kitted out with new sofas, coffee table, coffee station with art work by children looked-after on the walls to create a relaxed informal atmosphere. The aim is to run workshops and other health and wellbeing activities out of the Hub to support our valued foster carers.

Cllr Barnham, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at the council cut the ribbon and officially open the revamped space along with the four foster carer recruiters.

Cllr Barnham said:
“There is a relaunch at the Fostering Hub today for a good reason that we are stepping up a gear when it comes to recruiting foster carers with our four new foster carer recruiters who are based at the hub. We take seriously our responsibility to ensure that our children looked-after are given good care and a good experience. Some of the heroes in our system are the foster carers who take those children into their homes to give them the best possible start in life.”

If you or someone you know would like to foster, please come and visit us at the newly relaunched Fostering Hub where one of our foster carer recruiters will sit down with you and chat through your options.

The hub has regular drop-in sessions three times a week, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am – 1pm (except bank holidays).
