We offer travel assistance that encourages independence and helps prepare young people for adulthood. We take into account the needs of the child or young person, so that we offer travel assistance that is appropriate for the individual.

Types of travel help offered include:

  • free bus travel for under-18s, provided by Transport for London (TfL), if a child or young person is able to use this form of transport

  • funding Oyster/travelcards for the parent or carer so they can travel with their child – offered in exceptional circumstances

  • a travel buddy or passenger assistant to travel with a child or young person to and from school

  • some kind of payment for the parent or carer to use their own vehicle, or make arrangements for an appropriate adult to transport their child

  • a seat on a vehicle suitably adapted to take a child or young person to an appropriate education provision from home, or to an agreed meeting or pick-up point

  • more flexible options and creative solutions which encourage the independence of a child or young person.

Please note: we will only provide travel help at the beginning and end of the school day, or at the beginning and end of the week or term in the case of residential placements.
