Parents and carers information

This section is for anyone who would like more information about keeping children and young people safe. You may be a parent, carer, relative, friend or member of the community.

Safeguarding children’ means keeping children and young people safe. It is not limited to child protection, abuse and neglect: safeguarding children covers the many issues and concerns faced by children and young people and aims to ensure they grow up happy, healthy, safe and achieve their potential.

The following websites contain information on a range of subjects and further links to sources of support. If you are looking for a specific concern we have not included, please let us know.

Family Live – provides support for parents on any family issue. Offers free Parentline 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Also offers support via online chat, skype, email and textphone.

Met Police: – Safe -  information, facts and the law, what to do if you are concerned about someone, if you are being pressured or if you have been a victim. Includes bullying, hate crime, dangerous dogs, knife and gun crime, gang and group violence, honour based violence, drugs and alcohol, rape and sexual assault and travel safety.

NSPCC – help and advice for anyone worried about a child or seeking advice. There is a useful leaflets section for parents and carers and children and young people: NSPCC leaflets and resources.

The Mix – a free helpline to support young people get the support needed whatever the situation. 

NHS –  contains resources on health conditions, healthy living and finding local services.
