New campaign urges people to Discover Lewisham's businesses

Residents and visitors alike are being encouraged to Discover Lewisham, as part of a campaign launched by the Council to celebrate local businesses in the run-up to Christmas.

Kicking off to coincide with Small Business Saturday, 3 December, the campaign features and champions Lewisham’s independent business community - shining a light on the huge array of products, services and experiences they have to offer this festive season.

With the cost of living crisis hitting hard and disposable income reduced, ensuring our spending supports local businesses – providing a lifeline to their owners – is more important than ever. According to research published by Visa, for every £10 spent with a Lewisham-based business, more than a third (£3.80) is reinvested within the borough, meaning more jobs for local people and boosting local supply chains.

Discover Lewisham this Christmas is part of the Council’s ongoing and award-winning package of practical advice and support to help local businesses build resilience, putting them in the best position to navigate the current economic challenges. Business owners are being encouraged to share their December events and offers for promotion on the Council website.

Cllr Kim Powell - Cabinet Member for Businesses, Jobs and Skills - said:

“Discover Lewisham is a great way to highlight what our incredible small businesses do.

"We have some amazing independent retailers, family-owned restaurants, pubs, cafes, visitor attractions and activity centres across the borough – there really is something for everyone. So let’s get out there and support all of the amazing businesses Lewisham has to offer.

“It’s important that we acknowledge Small Business Saturday however, we want to make sure we are celebrating our small businesses all year round – this is why we encourage businesses to utilise all the free support and advice available so they can really showcase their business to the widest possible audience.”
