Students from schools in Lewisham are celebrating after receiving their GCSE results. In a year like no other it has been a relief for many to achieve the grades they were hoping for.

There are many stories of excellent achievements across the borough.

Trinity Church of England School in Lewisham saw many individuals celebrate exceptional results, including one pupil achieving ten grade 9's, one for every subject he studied - the highest grade possible and only awarded to the top 3% in the country.

Headteacher David Lucas said, ‘We are extremely proud of all our pupils.  It has been a challenging year for all of us, but particularly so for those on their journey towards the exams that are crucial for their progression towards their chosen career path.’

Elsewhere, St Matthew Academy celebrated top GCSE grades being achieved across all subjects with their highest achiever of the year, Christine, being another in the top 3% of the country celebrating ten grade 9s.

Sedgehill School saw a number of particularly strong individual successes. Students celebrating included Ayun and Alice who both achieved nine grade 9s and one grade 8, Endrit who achieved 10 Grade 6s and above, and Charlie who achieved 10 grade 6s and above including a 9 in Maths and a 9 in English.

Cllr Barnham, Cabinet Member for Children's Services and School Performance said:

“Congratulations to the Lewisham students who received their GCSE results today. This has been an exceptionally difficult time but I am pleased the government’s U-turn this week has meant that students have received the results they deserve. I would like to thank staff in our secondary schools who have worked so hard to support their students through the process.”
