Council statement on RAAC

We know many people would have seen in the news this week the issue of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) in public buildings.

RAAC is a lightweight form of concrete used extensively to build schools and other public buildings between the 1950’s and mid-1980s. Alternative arrangements are in place so that children still receive free school meals and can take part in before and after school clubs.

Please be reassured that no other schools in the borough have been identified as having RAAC, but further surveys will take place.
