Celebrate Diwali safely during COVID-19 restrictions
The main day of celebrations take place on Saturday 14 November where residents can observe the festival safely following the current lockdown restrictions.
Activities you can do:
Diwali can still be marked as a meaningful and special occasion while keeping safe and following safety guidelines by the following activities:
- Plan a virtual celebration to see friends and relatives and share experiences.
- Decorate your home by lighting a small oil lamp called divas and other traditional Diwali décor.
- Why not make rangoli patterns and put them outside their front door to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth.
- Families who live together, or are in a support bubble together, can still also have a feast at home and make sweet treats. Why not try a new Diwali recipe this year.
- Join a virtual celebration or event. Diwali in London are doing a ‘5 days of Diwali’celebration virtual event worth to check out.
Whatever you do remember to keep yourself, your friends, your family and the community safe by:
- Not meeting another person socially or undertake any activities with someone who is not in your support bubble.
- Remember hands, face, and space.
Group worship is also not permitted, as places of worship are for individual prayer only at the moment. COVID-19 guidance for the safe use of places of worship during the pandemic.
