Register a neonatal baby
Due to the severe drought conditions and the very high risk of fire, no burning is permitted anywhere in the cemetery until further notice. This includes incense, paper money, candles, joss sticks, ceremonial items, or any other materials that require a flame or produce heat, embers or ash.
We understand that these practices can form an important part of funeral and remembrance traditions, and we are grateful for your understanding while these temporary restrictions are in place to help keep visitors, staff, memorials and the cemetery grounds safe.
Registration of neonatal babies
For babies who die after birth, even if they live for a very short time, both birth and death must be registered.
There is a legal requirement for deaths to be registered within 5 days after the confirmation from the Medical Examiner or the Coroner has been received by the Registration Service. You may also be able to register your baby’s birth during the same appointment.
Getting support when your baby dies
SANDS, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, supports anyone who's been affected by the death of a baby before, during or shortly after birth. They work with families throughout the UK to offer emotional and practical support for parents, grandparents and siblings.
