Construction course case studies

Read about the experiences of Benon and Darren, who took part in our 'train the traffic marshall' programme.

We worked in partnership with Jobcentre Plus to offer a 'train the traffic marshall' programme (delivered by TST 2).

Construction course - Benon ChukBenon Chuk

Benon lives in Deptford and was previously unemployed.

‘The traffic marshall training programme was a new challenge that gave me the opportunity to get real experience on a construction site.

‘I learned about health and safety and first aid and have completed the A73 red card in traffic marshalling.

'Greenland Place is a really good site and I have learned a lot from being here with really good people.

’The Council should definitely run this programme again as it really helps to get local people on to site and into employment.’

Construction course - Darren KatumbaDarren Katumba

Darren Katumba (pictured, left) was previously unemployed and had been on Jobcentre Plus' work programme for four months.

Darren has since got a job at Lewisham Gateway thanks to our training programme.

‘What drew me in was the thought of what it could lead to and it has led to steady local work’, says Darren.

Suky Singh (pictured, right) Lewisham Gateway’s Logistics Manager offered Darren a role within a week because he is ‘a very good guy who is willing to learn and even gets in to work before me!’
