The main civic service took place at the war memorial in Lewisham High Street. It was led by Father Steffan Mathias of St Mary’s Church, Lewisham.

Residents also attended a second service at the war memorial at the junction of Lewisham Way and Upper Brockley Road led by Reverend Peter Farley-Moore, from St John’s Church.

At both ceremonies, local dignitaries stood with veterans and their families, representatives of uniformed and civilian organisations and the local community to remember those who lost their lives in conflict, as well as servicemen and women currently serving their country.

On the march-past in Lewisham High Street, the salute was taken by Damien Egan, Mayor of Lewisham, and Sir Steve Bullock, Deputy Lieutenant of Lewisham. The contingents included the cadets from the 1475 ATC squadron, the cadet and reserve forces from the 106 Regiment based in Grove Park, the St John's Ambulance cadets, Catford and Lewisham police cadets, St Dunstan’s cadets, the Pathfinders and various other detachments of the army cadets in Lewisham.

Damien Egan, Mayor of Lewisham, said: ‘I am grateful to everyone who came together to mark Remembrance Day. Just as Lewisham today is home to many communities, it is important to remember that people from across the world and of all faiths and backgrounds sacrificed their own safety so that we can have ours.’
