Area specific improvements

Lewisham’s Local Plan outlines a number of improvements in specific areas across the borough.

In the North Area of Lewisham, which includes North Deptford, Deptford and New Cross, the historic high streets will be strengthened and riverside spaces and underused industrial sites will be transformed with cultural activity and regeneration. Read more about plans for the North Area on the Local Plan Commonplace website.

Lewisham’s Central Area includes Lewisham, Catford and Hither Green. In this area a central growth corridor follows the A21, linking Lewisham and Catford and signalling the potential for thousands of new and genuinely affordable homes over the next 20 years. Read more about plans for the Central Area on the Local Plan Commonplace website.

In the East Area, which includes Blackheath, Lee and Grove Park; town and local centres will be strengthened and green spaces will be enhanced and preserved. There will also be better connections and further improvements to the linear network of green spaces which stretch throughout this area. Read more about plans for the East Area on the Local Plan Commonplace website.

Across the South Area, which includes Bellingham, Downham and Bell Green; existing generous open spaces will be enriched to improve the living environment for local people. Large areas of commercial land will be redeveloped, with the Bakerloo line extension as a catalyst for growth and investment in the borough. Read more about plans for the South Area on the Local Plan Commonplace website.

In the West Area, which includes Telegraph Hill, Brockley, Ladywell, Crofton Park, Honor Oak, Blythe Hill, Forest Hill, Sydenham Hill and Sydenham; neighbourhoods and High Streets will be revitalised playing to the strengths of each of their distinctive qualities to encourage local people to spend time and enjoy the community spaces. Councillor Paul Bell, Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning said:

“Our new Local Plan sets out the vision that will help ensure we make good planning decisions across the borough. Once the new Local Plan is agreed it will help shape Lewisham to 2040.

It’s crucial that the views of local residents are reflected in the new Local Plan. The more people who get involved now, the better the Council will be able to respond to the aspirations of our diverse communities.

Make sure you take this opportunity to read up on the plans for your local area and have your say.”
