Catford's new multi-screen cinema and community space is the cat's whiskers
Catford Mews boasts the borough’s first multi-screen cinema in a generation, a pop-up food market, a community room, a bar and cafe and a space for live music and comedy.
Affordability and inclusivity are the key principles of Catford Mews, with cinema tickets costing between £4.99 and £9.99 and memberships available for Catford locals.
Formerly a Poundland, the project has been realised by the developer Really Local Group, who create and restore cultural infrastructure by putting the heart back into the high street. There are also future plans to integrate co-working areas and an exhibition space.
Catford Mews is part of our wider regeneration plan headed up by Team Catford and developed in collaboration with the community, which aims to rejuvenate both Catford and the borough at large.
Speaking at the official launch of Catford Mews, Damien Egan, Mayor of Lewisham, said: ‘Catford Mews is a fantastic example of what we can achieve when the community comes together. I want to thank everyone who has been involved in this fantastic project.
‘Lewisham is creative, forward-thinking and the champion of small businesses. Our best years are ahead of us and Catford Mews is a shining example of how we can grow while keeping our independent shops and small businesses.’
The pop-up food market will serve vegan Scandi-inspired food by Daun’s Deli, a fresh take on Jamaican patties by Patty Man, popular Japanese dishes by FUSÉ and vegan doughnuts by Bears Dough. Caffeine comes courtesy of independent café Compound Coffee, and the bar serves Brockley Brewery and Brixton-based Indigo Wines.
