Giantgantic fun!
You play the title role of Jack, what’s your connection to Lewisham?
It’s my home. I was born at Lewisham Hospital, grew up in Brockley and went to school in New Cross. It’s also where I first developed my love of performance. I learnt to sing, dance and act with Studio 23 in Honor Oak Park and landed my first West End job – on the cast of DreamGirls – through D&B Academy on Bromley Road.
Is this your first time at Broadway Theatre?
I performed here as a child with Studio 23. It’s where we used to do our summer shows. I’ll never forget the buzz of stepping onto that stage and performing in front of friends and family. I’m excited to be back. It’s like coming full circle.
What’s so special about panto?
For many people, panto is their first experience of live theatre. I remember going with my mum as a child and loving every second. The great thing about it is it works on different levels – you’ve got that mix of adult humour and laughs for children – so it brings people of all ages together.
What can we expect from this production of Jack and the Beanstalk?
I don’t want to give too much away but what I can say is that it’s been specially written by Susie (McKenna) for South London. She’s created a production where the whole community is represented. Expect larger than life characters, colourful costumes, great live music and a whole lot of fun.
What would you say to anyone who hasn’t yet booked a ticket?
Nothing says Christmas like panto! This is the first one at Broadway since 2019 so it’s going to be extra special. The cast and crew are super talented. You’ll come out with your sides aching from all the laughing and humming some amazing songs.
