Cleaner Lewisham
Due to resourcing issues, the bin delivery and repair services are delayed. We will try to deliver/repair your bin as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience.
We all have an important role to play when it comes to tackling fly-tipping. Find out about your responsibilities as a resident and the services we offer to help reduce fly-tipping.
Reporting fly-tipping
You can report any fly-tipping or street cleaning issues through the Love Clean Streets website or app, available to download from Apple or Google Play.
You can also report issues such as abandoned vehicles, graffiti, dog fouling or road and pavement problems through the Love Clean Streets website or app.
Getting rid of unwanted items
If you need to get rid of unwanted household items, such as old furniture, make sure you do so legally. It's illegal to leave unwanted items or rubbish on the street or in other public places. You will face an on-the-spot £400 fine and risk further enforcement action.
There are a number of options available to residents to get rid of unwanted items:
- arrange a bulky waste item collection from the Council
- book a mattress collection
- donate your old furniture
- find a new home for your furniture online through websites such as Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree or Freecycle
- take your item for disposal at our Landmann Way Reuse and Recycling Centre
Reporting suspected fly-tippers
If you have information about somebody responsible for fly-tipping, you can let us know and help us take action against those illegally dumping rubbish. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence.
Find out how to report fly-tipping to our Environmental Crime Enforcement team.
Disposing of your household waste
Make sure that all your waste and recycling are placed securely in the correct bin for collection. Do not leave waste or recycling next to or on top of your bin - this can result in rubbish being blown away and littering the neighbourhood. This is classed as fly-tipping and could result in enforcement action.
If you take items to a recycling bank and find it is full, you should take the items to an alternative recycling back or take them home with you. Do not leave items next to the recycling bank if full - this is also classed as fly-tipping and could result in enforcement action.
If a recycling bank is full, you can report it through the Love Clean Streets website or app, or by emailing recycle@lewisham.gov.uk.
Private waste collectors
If you're using a private waste collector to dispose of your household waste, it's your responsibility to check they have a license. If you dispose of your rubbish using an unlicensed waste collector, you may face enforcement action, including a fine.
You can check that any waste carrier you use is registered by using the Environment Agency’s online search facility.
Join a community litter pick
Local residents, businesses and community groups can get involved in litter picks to help keep Lewisham clean and tidy.
We can lend you litter pickers (adults and children). Please email cleanerlewisham@lewisham.gov.uk with the dates and number of litter pickers you will need. We can also provide you with bags.
