Looking after your mental health and wellbeing

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, and an important reminder of how important it is to be aware of and look after our mental wellbeing. We know that times have been tough for many, with the cost of living crisis and after effects of the COVID-19 pandemic making things feel even tougher than usual for many.

That’s why we want to use the week to tell you about the local support that is available for anyone who needs it.

Lewisham Wellbeing Hub

To make it easier for people to access health and wellbeing support, we’ve partnered with Together for Mental Wellbeing – a national mental health charity – and other local partners to open the new Lewisham Wellbeing Hub.  Currently located on Lewisham High Street, the hub is open to anyone in our borough who is over 18 and has experienced challenges with their mental health and who wants to improve their wellbeing.

The service offers lots of different types of support, including 1-2-1 and group sessions and wellbeing workshops. There is no need to wait to be referred by a professional, as you can self-refer by filling in this online form or by calling 0208 609 6747.

More information about the Lewisham Wellbeing Hub, which is funded by the Lewisham Health and Care Partnership including Lewisham Council and South East London Integrated Care System, is available from this website.

More support to look after your mental wellbeing

If you want to improve your mental health, there are little things you can do that might help – and further support is there for those who need it.

The Every Mind Matters NHS website and Good Thinking website has lots of expert advice and practical tips to help you look after your mental wellbeing.

For anyone who feels like they need additional support for mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression or low mood, Lewisham Talking Therapies offers a range of psychological therapies to adults 18 years and over, who live or are registered with a GP in the borough – their services are free and confidential. Visit the Lewisham Talking Therapies website to find out more about how they can help. Again, there is no need to wait to be referred by a professional, as you can refer yourself by using their website.

Remember - above all, remember that your mental health is as important as your physical health. Looking after both is important, and sharing your worries or asking for help is not a waste of anybody’s time.
