Four organisations shortlisted for Ladywell Playtower restoration project
The shortlist follows strong community interest earlier this year, with more than 500 residents sharing their ideas through an initial feedback survey. Their input has helped shape the first round of proposals, with full survey results set to be shared in the coming weeks.
The Council has now selected four organisations to move into the next stage of the process: Hackitt CIC, Liquid Listening, RUSS (the Rural Urban Synthesis Society), and Turner Works. The proposals put forward had a diverse mix of ideas, that explored community, creative, and health and wellbeing uses for the building.
Due to the need to keep the process fair and robust, further details on the shortlisted proposals cannot be shared at this stage while the next phase is underway. This phase is where bidders will submit detailed proposals to the Council.
Over the summer, there will be more opportunities for the community to get involved, give feedback and help shape how the plans develop.
Councillor Daniel Dream, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Regeneration and Planning said:
“This is a really positive step in restoring this historic building and making sure it’s looked after for the long term. I’m excited about the Playtower’s potential and the organisations shortlisted so far.
"Working with my new Ladywell ward councillors, we’ll make sure local people are right at the heart of what happens next, so it becomes a place we can all feel proud of for generations to come.”
About Ladywell Playtower and the restoration partner search
Ladywell Playtower, a Grade II listed Victorian Bath House built in 1884, is a landmark Gothic structure and one of the country’s earliest public swimming pools.
After years of disrepair following its closure and fire damage, the Council is seeking a restoration partner to revive this historic site for future generations.
A community feedback survey took place earlier in the year along with an initial expression of interest process for bidders.
