COVID-19 in Lewisham - 15 April update

Dr Catherine Mbema, our Director of Public Health, shares the latest update on coronavirus in our borough and the steps we can all take to help protect ourselves and everyone in our communities.

Headshot of Catherine Mbema, our Director of Public HealthThis week saw England reach the next milestone in the Government’s ‘roadmap’, and on Monday pubs and restaurants were able to serve food and drink outside, our leisure centres and libraries began to reopen, and many shops opened their doors for the first time since December.

This is a great step forward and I know that many people will have been eager to get out to see friends and loved ones and indulge in some retail therapy. If you are out and about it’s really important that we all continue stick to the rules to ensure we’re able to move onto the next milestone next month. The rule of six is in place for a reason, to reduce the risk of transmission. The same goes for the rules around not meeting indoors; as tempting as it might be to go inside someone’s home when the temperature drops, it’s important we wrap up warm and stick to being in the garden or outside in the fresh air.

You can read up to date COVID-19 guidance on the Government’s website.

Keeping to the guidance remains important, as does ensuring we are all taking regular tests, even if we don’t have symptoms of coronavirus. We’ve been working hard to make sure that getting a rapid test in Lewisham is easy. You can get tested at a rapid test centre, at work if this is offered at your workplace, or you can pick up test kits at a local collection point or order online.

Book a rapid test or find out how to collect or arrange home delivery of tests.

If you do have symptoms, it’s still really important you get tested.
