Community asked to feedback on proposals for future of Ladywell Playtower

Lewisham Council has launched the final stage of its search for a partner to restore and revive Ladywell Playtower, with residents now being asked to have their say on four shortlisted proposals for the future of the Grade II listed landmark.

This marks the Council’s last step in the search for a restoration partner and follows earlier engagement this year, when more than 500 residents shared their views on the future of the building. Feedback showed strong support for a community-focused space offering affordable activities while respecting the Playtower’s heritage. The results of this initial community survey were given to interested organisations to guide the development of their proposals.

In summer, four organisations were shortlisted to take forward the restoration and future management of the landmark: Hackit CIC, Liquid Listening, RUSS (Rural Urban Synthesis Society) and Turner Works.

The local community is now being asked to review their detailed proposals and share feedback. Running from Monday 5 October to 16 November, the consultation asks people to consider how well each proposal would restore the building, benefit the community and bring the Playtower back into use, as well their order of preference.

Residents can explore each of the four submitted proposals in full before sharing their feedback:

The community can take part by completing the online survey. The survey closes at 9am on Monday 16 November. The community's feedback will play an important role in the Council’s final decision on the future of the Playtower later this year.

A public drop in event will also take place on Thursday 15 October, from 3pm to 8pm, at St Mary’s Centre, Ladywell Road, SE13 7UW, where residents can meet the shortlisted teams and ask questions about their proposals.

Councillor Daniel Dream, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Regeneration, Planning and Housing Delivery said:

“This loved historic building has incredible potential and has stood empty for far too long. It’s excellent that, after years of inaction, the community can finally see detailed proposals on how to bring it back to life.

We’re determined to move forward at pace, while making sure we find the right partner to restore the building, protect its heritage and create a future we can all be proud of.

The community has been at the heart of this process from day one and their views will play a huge role in what happens next. So, it’s over to the community and I’m asking everyone to explore the proposals, have their say and be part of making local history.”
