Project information
This scheme involves the redevelopment of 16 bedsits and an adjacent plot of undeveloped land to provide 32 new affordable homes for people over 55 years, with a communal garden room for residents to meet and socialise. The new homes will be built to ‘Passivhaus’ standards – an international methodology for designing and constructing the type of buildings needed to address issues including climate change and fuel poverty. This is the borough’s first ‘Passivhaus’ housing scheme.
This development also includes two four-bed flats for student accommodation. This is an intergenerational scheme where the students will be required to perform the role of a ‘good’ neighbour to the residents, providing creative workshops as a contribution for living in subsidised accommodation.
