Regaining your independence
If you’ve been unwell, injured, or spent time in hospital, you may need some help getting back to everyday life. Lewisham offers services to support you while you recover, rebuild confidence, and live as independently as possible.
This support is often called 'enablement' - it means giving you the tools and care you need to get back on your feet.
What kind of help can I get?
We offer short-term support through programmes like:
- help to get washed, dressed, or move around safely at home
- exercises to improve your strength, balance, or movement
- support to manage daily tasks like cooking, shopping or using the toilet
- advice and equipment to make your home safer
- support with your speech, communication or swallowing
- counselling or emotional support after illness or trauma
We work with you to set goals and build confidence - so you can get back to doing the things you enjoy
Therapies and rehabilitation
You may be offered therapy to support your recovery. These are provided by NHS Lewisham and Greenwich therapy teams and may take place at home, in hospital, or in the community.
