Amber cold weather health warning for London

We now have an amber cold-health alert in place. This means that people with existing health conditions or other vulnerabilities will be at greater risk.

The Met Office has forecast temperatures of 0°C or below in London tonight and over the next few days.

The, UK Health Security Agency has issued an Amber cold-health alert, in place from 12 noon on Thursday 2 January to 12 noon on Thursday 8 January.

While exposure to cold weather can affect anyone, some people are particularly at risk. These include:

  • older people (aged 65 years and over)
  • people with long-term health conditions such as cardiovascular or respiratory disease, or a mental health condition
  • pregnant women
  • young children (particularly those aged 5 and under)
  • people with learning disabilities
  • people at risk of falls
  • people who live alone and may be unable to care for themselves
  • people who are housebound or have low mobility
  • people living in deprived circumstances

Check the government's cold weather advice and remember that libraries across the borough are warm and welcoming spaces for everyone.
