Local artists invited to design new mural for Holbeach Road

A new large scale mural is set to transform the corner of Holbeach Road and Rushey Green in Catford, celebrating the local community and the newly improved public space.

The artwork will be installed on the north facing wall of 120 Rushey Green, a council owned building overlooking the pedestrianised route.

Since Holbeach Road was redesigned in 2022 with new lighting, planting and seating, the area has become a welcoming cut through and a growing hub of creativity thanks to the arrival of SET Space’s affordable artist studios. The mural forms part of wider public realm improvements taking place across Catford, including new shutter artworks and better wayfinding through the Catford High Street Place Lab programme.

Lewisham Council is now inviting artists to submit expressions of interest for the commission. Designs should reflect themes of community identity, safety and pride in place, and help strengthen the experience of key walking routes through the town centre. The available budget for the project is £6,000 which covers design, development and installation.

Three shortlisted artists will each receive a £600 proposal fee to develop a concept and installation plan, with the final artwork expected to be painted during late summer or autumn 2026.

Expressions of interest are open until Tuesday 7 April 2026 at 11.59pm. Artists connected to Lewisham or South East London will be prioritised:
