Ono Dafedjaiye by Molly Hankinson

Ono Defedjaiy stands in front of a vibrant painting of herself in Lewisham Shopping Centre

Location: Lewisham Shopping Centre, South Mall (Next to H&M, opposite We Are Lewisham unit)

About the Legend:

Ono was nominated for her trailblazing work in making the creative arts more inclusive for other people with learning disabilities. She is on the board at The Albany, is the longest-standing member of the team at Heart N Soul – a creative arts charity – where she’s worked for over ten years and has her own show on Soho Radio to help inspire women.

Artwork Description:

“Ono and I wanted to celebrate everything Heart N Soul stands for, in the mural – independence, freedom, pride, talent and empowerment. The eyes symbolise the power and importance of visibility for people with learning disabilities within the arts, and the main figure is inspired by Ono herself who is sporting the Lewisham crown.

I hope this mural honours Ono’s unwavering passion and advocacy for her work, as well as representing fundamental ideas which are unapologetic in their stance, in a bright, bold and celebratory way.” – Molly Hankinson
