Buckthorne Cutting Nature Reserve and Fourth Reserve Foundation by Roshn

Man, Roshn stands next to mural of Buckthorne Nature Reserve

Location: Lewisham Shopping Centre, Borough Mall (next to Shoe Zone)

About the Legends:

Anna Maria Cahalane and her partner Nick were nominated for their phenomenal efforts in driving forward the development of Buckthorne Cutting Nature Reserve. In doing so they have protected this rail-side wildlife habitat, helping local people respect and connect with the nature around them.

Art Description:

“The mural depicts Buckthorne Cutting Nature Reserve, in acknowledgment of partners Anna-Marie and Nick‘s inspiring work as community gardeners, sustainers and educators of a prehistoric pocket of London’s once identity. I made charcoal drawings and oil paint studies of the space and details and brought these elements together in a design, picking out the attributes in acrylic paint.

It was influenced by the views of the many children who told me what they thought I should add – always an inspiration on public projects.

About the artist:

Local to Forest Hill, Roshn works with movement and colour. Normally to be found drawing in music venues, dance studios and most recently Sydenham Woods, painting the feeling from within the woods and experimenting with gestural marks and colours in acrylic inks and oil paints.
