Cycle loan scheme

Find out how you can borrow a bike to Try Before you Bike. Bikes are available for children, adults, electric bikes, cargo bikes and adapted bikes.

How does it work?

If you’re thinking of cycling, the Try before you bike scheme allows you to try out a new or nearly new bike for a monthly fee. If you like the bike, you can later buy it at a discounted price or pay monthly until you own it. Available to those who live, work or study in Lewisham.

What bikes are available?

How much does it cost?

The cost of borrowing a bike depends on the type of bike you want to try out. On the Try Before you Bike link there is further information on the types of bikes available and a guide to choosing the right bike for your need.

Monthly prices start from:

  • Children’s bikes from £10
  • Standard adult bikes from £20
  • Folding bikes from £20
  • Adaptive bikes from £50 
  • Adult electric bikes from £50
  • E-cargo bikes from £100

How do I collect the bike?

The bike can be delivered and collected, to and from any London borough, you must live, work or study in Lewisham to be eligible to take part in the scheme.

The bikes are delivered by qualified cycle instructors who will give you a free cycle skills session upon delivery to help get you started You can return your bike any time after one month. No deposit, interest or cancellation fees.

All bikes come with lights, locks and a helmet and other accessories such as pannier bags and baskets are available.

Do I need insurance?
