Pets in council homes
Due to an IT issue, our housing complaints email address isn't working. We're expecting to have it back up and running by the end of the week.
If you need to raise a housing complaint in the meantime, please use our housing complaints form.
You can keep the following animals – you don't need to get our permission:
- dogs (excluding any dogs banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act)
- cats
- fish
- rabbits
- guinea pigs
- hamsters
- caged birds
If you want to keep any other type of animal, reptile or bird you must get written permission from our Housing Management team.
Pet ownership is a big responsibility – you should look after your animals and make sure they don’t cause a nuisance within your property or in communal areas. We'll withdraw permission to keep a pet if it causes a nuisance or health hazard, and we will report any animal cruelty or neglect to the RSPCA.
