Lewisham's best local businesses of 2019 revealed

Eight Lewisham businesses have been recognised for their accomplishments at the Mayor’s Annual Business Awards held in Buster Mantis Bar in Deptford on 13 November.

Winners of each of the eight categories were chosen by a judging panel which included Damien Egan, Mayor of Lewisham, and business support representatives.

The Mayor presented each award winner with a certificate.

The 2019 winners are:

Best Creative Business – Video Fusion
A video production company founded by two mothers, who upon reaching the end of their maternity leave, decided to pursue their passion and start their own business. They create affordable videos for local small businesses and charities.

Best Investing in Skills Award – i2 Media
i2 Media Research Limited is a research and strategy consultancy that specialises in researching consumer psychology and audience experience of digital media.

Best Green Business – Shop Without Packaging
A zero waste shop based in Lee. They also sell environmentally-friendly products such as recyclable toothbrushes made from bamboo sticks.

Best London Living Wage Business – Catford Mews
A new multi-screen cinema located in the heart of Catford. It is also home to four local food vendors and an independent café.

Best Restaurant/Café/Bar – Cummin’ Up Caribbean Restaurant
A local restaurant based in Lewisham that serves Caribbean cuisine. For the last 10 years, the owner has provided free Christmas Day lunches to elderly people living alone.

Best Independent Shop – Wellbeloved Butchers
A local independent butchers that opened in Deptford in 1829. Customers have praised their wide range of ‘unusual’ meat.

Best Hair and Beauty Service – RC Hair Solutions
An independent family-owned hair and beauty service. They have a range of long serving customers, and the owner made a personalised wig for a client who was suffering from hair loss due to their cancer treatment.

Mayor’s Community Spirit Award – Jay’s Budgens
A family run supermarket that has been at the heart of Brockley’s community for 39 years. They help local schools, churches and street parties – donating more than £2,000 for a new roof of a local church and sponsoring a local u13’s football kit.
