First Family Hub officially opens in Deptford

Lewisham Council officially opened the doors to the first of its new Family Hubs at Clyde Nursery in Deptford yesterday (Tuesday 23 May 2023). The new-style hub will make it easier for parents, carers and young people to access the help and support they need by bringing together different services and types of support.

Using additional funding that the Council has secured from the UK government, Family Hubs have been designed to make it quicker and simpler for families to get practical support. The breadth of services that will be available from the Family Hub will include parenting and feeding advice, support with wellbeing and mental health, and early language development.  There will also be youth activities for young people aged 11 to 19.

The first Family Hub is located at premises shared with Clyde Nursery and services will be delivered by Lewisham Council staff and partner organisations.

The Family Hub was officially opened yesterday by Damien Egan, the Mayor of Lewisham, and Councillor Chris Barnham, Lewisham Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, at an event attended by staff, families, and representatives from local partner organisations.

In addition to the physical hub, there is also a virtual Family Hubs offer on Lewisham Council’s website, which draws together information, advice and signposting to further support for families and young people in one easy-to-access online hub.

Lewisham Council is planning to open more hubs across the borough later in the year.

Councillor Chris Barnham, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Community Safety, said:

“Our Family Hubs will provide a one-stop-shop for families and young people, making it easier for them to access vital services, advice and support in one place. “

“We know that for children and young people, the right support provided at the earliest opportunity can make all the difference. By improving access to services and bringing whole-family support under one roof, these hubs will help families overcome challenges and should ultimately help to improve outcomes for children and young people. We’re working closely with partner organisations, as well as families, across the borough as we shape and develop this service. We are looking forward to extending this support with more hubs due to open across the borough later this year.”

The Family Hub at Clyde Nursery (Alverton St, London SE8 5NH)  is open from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday and can be contacted on 020 8314 9545 or by emailing family.hubs@lewisham.gov.uk.
