Project information

This project involved the redevelopment of the Bear Church (within the Shaftesbury Centre) into a six-storey building with roof terraces. The development provided a new church with ancillary community rooms and an ancillary café on the ground and first floors. It also includes 33 one-bedroom affordable flats above, together with a public space to the front of the building.

The scheme is providing medium-term specialist temporary housing for people aged 18 to 35 who are in housing need.

Residents will be nominated for accommodation by the London Borough of Lewisham. Alongside their tenancy, they will receive support from J49 housing and Bench Outreach staff who will provide residents with the support to maintain their tenancies, as well as assist them into education, training, and employment.
