World Car Free Day – A fun day out in Downham
Although the official global date is 22 September, Lewisham is getting ahead of the curve with a vibrant, family-friendly event designed to inspire greener travel, cleaner air and stronger community connections.
What’s happening?
The festivities will take place across Cinderford Way and Durham Hill - Downham Fields (Shroffold Road entrance), so residents can reclaim the streets for play, creativity and connection.
Expect a lively atmosphere filled with:
- Dr Bike and road safety advice
- creative engagement from Lewisham Libraries
- a fire truck
- face painting for all ages
- Leisure Centre and 1Life activities in Durham Hill - Downham Fields
- info stalls from Adult Learning Lewisham, Air Quality, Foster Care, and more
- engagement with Police and Safer Communities teams
- fly tipping awareness, health equity, and community wellbeing initiatives
- and much more including live entertainment
All activities are free and designed to bring neighbours together while showcasing the Council’s commitment to a healthier, more connected Lewisham.
