Relocation support for fourth floor tenants of Catford's Old Town Hall
We understand that the news about Goldsmiths’ future use of the Old Town Hall has caused concern for artists based on the fourth floor through Bow Arts. We’re sorry this came as a surprise and want to reassure tenants that we are taking steps to support them.
Bow Arts has been a valued partner for over a decade, and recognising this, the Council has supported with below market rent and £640,000 of investment in the town centre. The Council has seized this significant opportunity with Goldsmiths, to further unlock these benefits and to expand creative and artistic activity in Catford town centre.
We continue to support Bow Arts and are working with them to identify alternative premises in the borough. We also recognise the importance of supporting the 30 studio tenants currently based in the Old Town Hall. New affordable workspace is opening in Catford this year, including:
- Town Hall Chambers – V22 & Calico: approximately 10,000 sqft / 37 studios
- SET, 9 Holbeach: 10,000 sqft / 32 studios
- SET, Catford town centre: approximately 5,000 sqft / 20 studios
This represents a net gain of around 17,500 sqft and 59 additional studios for Catford.
We have informed SET and V22 of the situation and they are both are open to enquiries from affected artists. A full tenant list is expected next week so we can contact individuals directly. Workspace provider contacts:
- SET: info@setspace.uk
- Calico: studios@calicoprojects.com
- V22: lettings@v22.org
The Council remains committed to supporting creative enterprise in Catford and across the borough and to expanding affordable workspace wherever possible.
