New night market coming to Sydenham this summer

Lewisham Council is bringing a brand new night market to Sydenham this summer, packed with local street food, great vibes and an outdoor summer atmosphere.

Sydenham Night Market will run every Friday from 17 July to 18 September, 5 to 10pm along a car-free space at Sydenham Station Approach. The free to attend market aims to make Sydenham a go-to destination for summer evenings.

The market series is one of 15 projects selected for the Greater London Authority’s Summer Streets programme, which encourages outdoor dining and events, supported by later trading hours. Lewisham is one of 13 boroughs to secure funding from the Mayor of London’s £500,000 fund, designed to boost al fresco dining, support businesses and create a vibrant summer across the capital.

The Sydenham Night Market will be operated by the Food Market Company, organisers of popular markets in Catford, Lewisham and Beckenham Place Park.

Councillor Shireen Asaw, Cabinet Member for Business, Workers and Skills said:

“Lewisham is known for our incredible food and drink scene, and this brand new night market is a great way to showcase local businesses and traders, attract visitors to the area and create an evening destination for the warmer months.

"We are committed to helping our high streets thrive and strengthening the local economy, and this project is part of our work to encourage more people to discover everything the south of the borough has to offer.”
