Lewisham’s class of 2026 celebrates A-level and BTEC results
Schools and colleges have praised the hard work and dedication shown by their students, whose results reflect years of effort and commitment. Many are now preparing for their next steps, including university, apprenticeships, further education, training and employment.
There has been a large increase in the proportion of entries awarded an A* in Lewisham this year compared to in 2025. This has increased from 6.1% in 2025 up to 7.5% in 2026 – a much larger percentage point increase than the average seen across England:
- A* grades have improved since 2025
- A*-C grades are in line with national
- A*-E grades are in line with national
- B and C grades remain above national
- more than two in every five (41.1%) Level 3 BTEC entries were awarded a distinction or above, a substantial increase from 35.7% last year
Cllr Rotimi Skyers – Cabinet Member for Children, SEND, Youth Empowerment and Culture – said:
“Huge congratulations to everyone receiving their A-level and BTEC results today. I’ve spent time visiting schools across the borough and it’s been brilliant to see the excitement, pride and sense of possibility as young people celebrate everything they’ve achieved.
“These results reflect years of hard work and determination, supported every step of the way by teachers, school staff, families and friends.
“What comes next will look different for everyone. Whether you're heading to university, starting an apprenticeship, moving into further training or beginning your first job, I wish you every success as you take that next step.
“I also know that not everyone will have received the results they were hoping for. If that's the case, please remember that one set of results does not define your future, and there is support available to help you explore your options.“Whatever your results today, you should be proud of how far you've come. I wish you all the very best for the future.”
